Become1 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What community partners participate in these campaigns?

We believe the most successful community-based recruitment campaigns include several representatives from each of the five different “islands” that typically exist in every community.

These five “islands” are:
• Educational island
• Religious island
• Residential island
• Recreational/Civic island
• Business island

What kinds of activities would a community member be involved in during this campaign?

A community member might call other businesses to ask if they can put up recruitment posters or leave other printed information for their customers to take away. They may also sponsor an event where young people are presented with the challenge to Become1. Educators in the community’s schools may be asked to show a recruitment video and facilitate a group discussion on what it means to be a special educator.

How are community members a part of the campaign?
Community members are the heart and soul of these campaigns. They reach out to other members on their island and engage them in the campaign planning process, as well as solicit their resources and skills to carry out the campaign plan.

Is there a cost to be a part of a community-based recruitment campaign initiative?

The Personnel Center is funding the planning and technical support of these campaigns in states that have applied and been accepted. There is no cost to the state or the community to receive these services from the Personnel Center. The cost of implementing local campaigns is up to the state and local communities, themselves.
